Travel Tips

  • Be aware that roaming fees usually apply.  Get a local SIM card and make sure your phone carrier has internationally unlocked your phone.  

  • Contact your bank to let them know you will be out of the country to avoid your bank from blocking transactions.  

  • Though credit cards and debit cards can be used, take cash to avoid international bank charges.  In some cases you will see vendors that only accept cash.  Carry cash, but not a lot.  Only take enough for your outing and leave the remainder secure in a safe.

  • It’s highly advised to purchase bottled water for drinking.  

  • Bug repellent and sunscreen is highly recommended on the continent.

  • Many U.S. medical insurance companies do not have coverage outside of the States.

  • Temporary medical insurance and travel insurance are not mandatory but are recommended.

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after departure.  

  • Buy travel adaptors for your travel.

  • Having a portable charger is important on the continent.
